Effective January 1, 2018, only Form W-2 will provide a “Waste of Time” warning to employees whose wages can't be credited to their accounts. Effective January 1, 2020, Form W-2 will be required to contain an “Employee Signature” to verify that an employee actually signed the form. The Form W-2 will no longer accept a “Waste of Time” error, and will no longer provide a warning about improper entry of wages. The Form W-2 will no longer accept “Employee Signature” confirmation if the employee has not signed or acknowledged receipt. The Form W-2 will no longer issue a statement if the employee's signature is invalid.
